My name is Sara Marinović Pavan, and I'm Italian-Croatian. Illustrations and comics are not a profession suited to me, sitting at the drawing board is akin to torture. When I do work with them, it's always for a cause I genuinely believe in. This conviction guided my choices about which projects to involve my illustrations and comics with (most notably, Rabbia proteggimi, a book by Maria Edgarda Marcucci). In my broader work in communications, deciding who to collaborate with always stems from ethical, social, and political reflection.
Whether I'm channeling my original passions (comics, counterculture, DIY) or navigating the compromises of adult life (my attempts to change things from within), I cannot conceive of my existence from a purely individual or individualistic perspective. In short, as stated by Alexander Supertramp reworking a quote from Boris Pasternak's Doctor Zhivago:
Summarizing complex contents with keywords and icons: a tool for team building, co-designing, and stakeholder engagement. Discover more by watching the playlist with my recent works. Graphic facilitation can be done live during conferences and workshops (becoming what is better known as graphic recording), whether drawing on a canvas with colored markers or working digitally and projecting the step-by-step live process on a screen.
Intersectional feminism, antispeciesism, anticapitalism, environmental protection, d.i.y., hacktivism.
Finding the best tone of voice for a message and translating it into different visual and artistic languages (comics, videos, etc.) with an out-of-the-box attitude requires skills that I have developed through more than two decades in the field, as well as curiosity and a fascination with the unknown. Have a look at this paper-cut video that I wrote and directed for a microcredit foundation to see this magic.
